SAT Math 2 Failures?

Hey all,

So I have a dilemma. I just took the Math 2 exam for the second time and I’m still not confident with the way I performed. The first time, I got a 680 or 690 (can’t remember but either way, pretty bad)…this time I omitted 3 and got 2 or more wrong…

I know that some colleges require the math subject test or at least “recommend” it, but I hate taking it and really don’t want to retake it a third time…

Somehow, math standardized tests are just getting worse and worse for me. I took the SAT 2 Math 2 for the first time in October of this year, the most recent one today. I am in Calc BC so it’s not like I never learned the material. I did super well in Alg 1, Alg 2, Trig, and Precalc…I advanced out of geometry by studying over the summer, so I’m a little weak in that area, but I practiced a lot for the exam yet still feel like I failed!!

On the ACT as well, I got a 35 or 36 on all sections but math, which was a 33. I have no idea how I can make myself better at these tests; it seems that all of the questions I studied are never on the real exam, which is full of random things I forgot or never reviewed. For the SAT Math 2, I bought the Dr. John Chung’s book (which has like 60 “tips” and 12 tests, I did 5 tests), did a test from Barron’s, and did a real test from the Collegeboard. I scored a 760 on the Collegeboard one (making like 5 dumb mistakes for no reason)…but on the real test I feel like I wasn’t sure about a ton of problems.

If I don’t get a high score (750 or above) on Math 2, do you think I should retake or just avoid schools that force you to have a good Math 2 score? My grades in math class are great and I’m pretty sure I did well on the AP test for BC…I just don’t know why I’m so horrible at taking “easier” math tests (which in reality are harder…)

I want to study biochemistry in college, maybe minor in economics… the math in chemistry is perfectly fine for me…I just can’t do standardized test math…

Do you think not submitting my Math 2 and having no Math SAT 2 will hurt me? Or should I retake for an 800? I literally went to prep classes for Math 2, which half of my friends who are in a math level below me self studied in a week.

Sorry if I sound super salty and angry…I’m just really frustrated that I can’t do math…

Thank you in advance for your help!!

If you only omitted 3 and got 2 (or 3 or 4) wrong, that could still be an 800 depending on the curve. Worst case scenario, maybe a 770. I would suggest waiting until the scores come out to make a decision about taking it again though.

honestly, if you are getting perfect sections scores on everything but math, then that seems to suggest a different career path than economics/biochem. You can still do it, just sayin for many people getting an 800 on Math 2 is extremely easy, and you would have to compete with many of these people if you do math related things

@theofrelord

well, I love biochem and economics because they aren’t straight math…and as I said, the math used in chem and econ is fine for me. I I just suck at standardized math.

I know that a lot of people get 800s without studying…no need to tell me again…all of my friends got 800s by taking 1 practice test…

i don’t think i’m going to change what I want to study just because there might be people who are smarter…won’t there always be someone better?

thanks anyways for responding i guess!
