What did you guys think about the Math test? it was my first time taking it, so I freaked out near the end. I felt like the last 10 questions or so ramped up the difficulty by 10. I think this was because I haven’t done those kind of questions in a while, and didn’t remember some equations for them…
Hah I completely failed… The last 15 or so
were horrible for me…
i found it much more difficult than any of the practice Math II tests I had taken which may have been because I was distracted by how cold the room was and the fume hood in the back of the class beeping every 5 minutes, but I felt overall pretty unprepared.
DS felt the same-more challenging that prior administrations
I didn’t study because I got a 780 on the math section of the SAT just a month prior. I thought it was going to be similar to that, but woah I was wrong. I was also studying for the AP Calc AB test right around that time so I thought it would be all good. That test… was so much more difficult than I expected. I got a 740 and am planning on retaking it. Math is one of my strongest subjects (got a 5 on that AP exam) and I know I can do better, especially since I enjoy math and won’t mind studying. I was very very surprised at the difficulty.
June scores come out tomorrow :o
740 is actually great BTW @ski_racer and puts you in the range for Ivies. Princeton’s middle 50 for subject tests was 710-790 I believe.
The percentiles are very misleading (800 is 90th percentile) because only those very strong in math take the math 2 subject test.
Anyways, with a little prep, your score will definitely improve. Aim as high as you can.
I got a 790 on SAT Math (one and done, 750 english), will update with my math 2 score tomorrow
I skipped precal, so was scared I wouldn’t do so well on the Math 2. I finished BC this year (5), and took a few (4) practice tests, and that got me my score of (hopefully) 800.
@AimingTop50 I know it’s good, but I know I can do better, which is why I’m retaking it, unlike the SAT, because for that one I know I did my best.
@ski_racer It would be weird to get a 790 on regular math and an 800 on math 2, but that’s what I hope is going to happen. I think you can leave like 6 blank and still get perfect.
Yeah, definitely retake it.
Hey guys, I took the test in may with some prep and then again in june with lots of prep and I can say for sure that the May one was much easier. I skipped 7 or so, but still managed to get a 740. Kind of funny that the scores are skewed so much that a 740 was only in the 58th percentile, but hey, I got above a 700 and thats all I wanted.
Yeah, I wanted 800…
Got a 790
Which is 76th percentile somehow LOL
Not gonna retake it though
If Georgia Tech gives max class credit for a 730 on Chem… these aren’t that big of a deal people
I got a 750… lol, but I’m still going to submit it. I did get a 800 on US History, so my very humanities-driven self is pleased!
I also got a 790 on the june administration.
@AimingTop50 It wasn’t an awesome test day for me, and I’m thinking of math as a possible major. It’s just one of those things where I want the assessment to be accurate, because right now it doesn’t show how well I can actually do. Side note: if you’re taking 3 subject tests, take Math 2 first, not last.
@ski_racer Don’t worry you’ll definitely up your score…
Besides, if you get a 5 on BC, they will know you are good for higher level math. IMO, Math 2 is still lower level math (geometry/precal).
@AimingTop50 Alas, my school doesn’t offer BC! I’ll be taking stats instead
DS earned a 5 on AP BC as a sophomore-cold, no prep beyond in the classroom, overtired (super committed at school). Earned an 800 on SAT math in May, again cold, no prep, overtired. Got a 790 on the Math 2 a month later. Again, took it cold, overtired, with no review or practice. Interesting that a 790 is so low percentile-wise but we all need to keep in mind that the kids who take the Math 2 are already pretty proficient at math.
@grandscheme Sounds very gifted; how did he fare on SAT English?
I guess let’s both not worry about the 790, 800 is 80th percentile too… I want to know how many people take Math 2, that would put it in perspective. I have not seen this number published, though. Seriously though 790 is only one-two questions off from 800…
@AimingTop50 She earned a 760. Decent considering the lack of prep or sleep! Varsity athlete, class pres, club pres, choir director, dorm proctor and so on. Academics don’t get the attention they maybe should but she loves her life.
