SAT math question[Venn diagram]

At jones college, there are a total of 100 students. if 30 of the students have cars on campus, and 50 have bicycles, and 20 have both cars ad bicycles. Then how many students have neither a car or a bicycle?

A: 40.

I understand how to get to the answer, but cant the answer be 0 as well? since 50+30+20 = 100 flat?

Does the question have to explicitly state the word"only" in order to just add the values up? So if it doesn't say "only", i must subtract both from 30 and 50? am i correct? help.

It can't be zero because of the the 30 with cars and 50 with bikes, 20 has both.

Oh, right. Thanks!

how do you do this problem

"100 - 30 - 50 - 20 = 40" Some great math there somekidinnyc
Its more along the lines of 100 - 30 - (50 - 20) = 40

Option1+Option2-Both+Neither=Total
30+50-20+N=100
N=40

oops, i meant 100 - 30 - 50 + 20 = 40

I'm sure you guys realized that.

How did you delete your own post? I don't see the button.
