I was wondering if anyone could explain to me the differences between the two, and which test is best suited for which type of person?

ALL in my opinion don’t take what I say as fact, I have tried both and this is what I have come up with
ACT: Good student test
SAT: Smart Student Tests

ACT: 4 sections (essay optional)
Math-Algebra 1, Geometry, Basic Math, and a little bit of easy trig (sin, cos, tan)
Science- All about interpreting data and answering questions quickly and efficiently
Reading-4 or 5 long reading passages with questions about them
English- Correct the sentences

SAT: 10 Sections (3 Math) (3 Critical Reading) (2 Writing Multiple Choice) (1 Writing Essay)
Math- Very basic math that is worded in complex ways that cause you to think and understand in order to solve…(The Act is more straightforward)
Critical Reading- Fill in the blanks with vocab words and answer questions about the passage
Writing Multiple Choice - Correct the sentence, improve the paragraph, and point out the mistake questions

Try both and see which one suits you.

[ACT vs. SAT - New York Times](<a href=“ACT vs. SAT - The New York Times”>ACT vs. SAT - The New York Times)

Not sure I buy all of this but it’s food for thought. In our neighborhood, the word on the street, so to speak, is that the ACT is more straight-forward but more time-pressured. Therefore, if your kid is one who gets accomodations such as extended time on tests, you want to go with the ACT. It says a lot about my neighborhood that there are enough kids getting accomodations that this has become part of the neighborhood wisdom.

Take both. Really the reading and writing seemed pretty similar to me. The math on the ACT is a little more advanced, but you’re allowed to miss more (and its more straightforward). The really big difference between the two is science (which is only on the ACT). You dont have to know much science (or any, really) because it’s mostly reading comprehension/interpreting data. However the time is what gets a lot of people.

For me, my scores were pretty similar (SAT slightly higher than ACT), but I did significantly better on the math ACT than SAT so I sent both (and got into my top choice college ). Try both out, if you do a lot better on one then you can take that one again if you want.

Thanks a lot! I think I’ll buy books for both and try them out. People tell me that the ACT is somewhat easier but I don’t quite believe that…
