SAT PHYSICS May 2016

Hello All,

I did the test.

For question 1 and 2 regarding the highest velocity and displcament I believe they were both the same answer, as velocity takes into account direction.

What did you guys put for the horizontal pulley system , there were 3 questions regarding tension.

Feel free to ask any other questions

I got the questions regarding the pulley wrong. I put 80N on the first one whereas it should have been 40N

The first questions were so damn hard…

YES! The first questions were rape! they are usaully easy htough :stuck_out_tongue:

For my tensions I put them either equal of less than 40. The one with friction less, and the others as 40.

What about the ciruclar motion questions with the tangential and radial forces. I suck at those

What minimum score would fetch me an 800 on this paper?

PROB 60/75 raw

What did you all put for that one question where an electron in ground state absorbs 4ev of energy from a photon?
On which level would it be?

there were two electrons right…both in the ground state…so according to me…it would be unreasonable for only one of them to absorb energy and go to an excited state coz both electrons would have an equal probability of absorbing the energy…so i put the option in which both were on the second level…there was an option like that as far as i can remember but i cant recall which option no. that was…

How hard is the SAT II Physics Exam? I am currently in AP Physics 1 and am averaging A- on my tests. Would the AP course prepare me enough for the exam, or should I purchase a prep book to help me? Thanks

Thanks, I think I put the same thing

@clichescreenname I have a 99% in AP Physics 1 and I took the exam. It’s possible to do well on the exam for the sat, but you DEFINITELY need to buy a prep book and learn approx. 40% of the content yourself. AP Physics 1 does not prepare you sufficiently for the SAT. If you can take the sat after you complete Physics 2, I would recommend that. Not to discourage you, as you can definitely score well with just AP Physics 1, but you have to be prepared to do a lot of self-teaching. Personally, I worked with about 6 prep books that I borrowed from the library

I am gonna write SAT subject Physics in June. How were May’s questions? What books should I use? Which books had practice tests closest to the real thing? Any tips pleaseee guys! :slight_smile:

i was thinking that, but then again there is ONE photon so how could it be absorbed by 2 electrons?
Thats what made me choose one going into 4 and the other 0 instead of 2 and 2.

What about the speed of the particle in the field? I put it as the same speed as the fields were not perpendicular. Not sure htough

What about the question about the results and the graph for the experiment. I think I put D. E as basically saying since the lines do not go through all the points none are valid, might have been a math quesiton i forgot

@happywharton okay you might be right about that. It didnt strike me about it being just 1 photon. But the answer has to be either 4,0 or 2,2 thats the only thing i know for sure. For the speed question i put zero coz they asked what would be the speed due to magnetic field right? so the magnetic field wont be acting on the particle coz the particle was in a field that was not perpendicular to the magnetic field. So technically it shouldnt experience any force from it and so the speed should be zero. What do you think? Im really scared about scores :frowning: i wanted an 800 but looking at things, i might not be able to i think :confused:

@happywharton
and the graph question i put E (none of them are valid as the dont pass through the points.) The person had already collected the data right. all he/she had to do was join them. I was about to skip the question but then I put E.

Yup the photon is in my opinion def 4-0 , For the magentic field I agree, the particle would not accelerate or anything but then the wording of the question might mess us up, no idea.

For the graph having done many experiments myself I can almost 99% tell you that its not E.
The results were not linear meaning you could not join them up ( due to heat loss etc)! So you are looking for the line of best fit, so a line with amount the same number of points below and above the line. Which I think was D ( might not be, its been a while).

Heres links about the line of best fit

What about the other questions?

@sd11699

yeah i know i was gonna do that but for some reason i talked myself out of it and went for E. sad move on my part. Anyway , which other questions you talking about? @happywharton

Oh and how many mistakes can am i allowed to make to be able to get to get an 800? or maybe 790?
i dont wanna go below that :stuck_out_tongue: @happywharton

prob like 12-13
