Hi all,
I recently enrolled in an 8-week, twice a week prep course that cost $900. The thing is, I really felt I needed it and my mom and older brother supported me, but my dad was reluctant to sign me up. The course isn't that helpful and while my score is rising I don't think it's worth it - week 3 and I'm at 2130, starting at 2060. I feel like if I get the Collegeboard SAT blue prep book, along with the class, I will be in my target range (2350+) but now my dad is so mad that he refuses to let me get that book. Basically the class won't be enough and now I'm kind of stuck. And if I don't do well my dad will get mad too. Please help and thanks in advance!

Are you allowed to ask for a refund if your score doesn’t go up enough?

It costs 14 USD on ebay if you can get it through there…and 22 dollars retail. It’s a bit silly to pinch pennies and waste dollars.

If your dad absolutely refuses, ask the prep course to provide you one. Explain to them that you need the supplement because the course isn’t quite giving you the improvement you thought you would get…hey, you’re a paying customer.

The book is the must. I can’t imagine any serious preparation without practicing on College Board tests.

My dad is super hot-tempered and told me if I bought it, he’d burn it… lol (not really)
I asked the prep program (it’s Elite in southern CA) and they will give me like 9 or 10 practice tests. I think he will cool down in a week or two, so I’ll work through those and then go on to do the College Board tests. Is this good?

Check out your local library if you’re dad still refuses to pay for the book. You can then maybe make copies of the answer sheets and then fill your answers in there. I have never tried the practice tests, but March2Success.com is a free site that has seven SAT practice tests.

Good luck on the SAT and I hope you reach your goal of 2350!

Keep in mind, Elite may use College Board tests for their practice tests - it’s a big enough company that they may make up their own, but it’s also possible they use the BB already.
