SAT preparation: practice test vs actual test results

What is everyone’s observations or experiences insofar as the correlation between your practice test and actual test results? Meaning if you take 4 College Board practice tests and get 1400 +/- every time are you pretty likely to get 1400 +/- on the actual test. Same with 1300 and 1500? I wonder if the higher up the scale you go if the results of the practice test are less predictive of actual results? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Different results between D and S. D had consistently higher practice test scores than actual, S pretty much in line. I think a lot has to do with how nervous a kid gets in a real test situation.

I would guess that some get a higher read on practice tests because they don’t impose strict time limits on themselves, don’t do the entire test in the prescribed time (e.g. give themselves longer breaks between sections) and are more comfortable in a home/familiar environment. Some may even “fool” themselves by peeking at the answer sheet. The best practice test replications are done by schools and tutors.

My daughter did significantly better than predicted. She did a ton of practice tests.

Thanks!!

I think the practice tests were very accurate. I got a score I was expecting when I took the real thing. It was also the same score I got on the PSAT I took that year (ahem I didn’t really study).

good to know the tests are similar.

You shouldn’t stray too far from the mean score on your practice tests unless you didn’t practice enough or if you have severe test anxiety.
