Hello everyone.
A big problem has arose in regards to the photo ID needed for me to take the test, which is THIS Saturday! I just realized yesterday evening that my passport (the ONLY form of photo identification I have) is expired, and the photo on there was of me when I was like 8 years old… In accordance to CollegeBoard’s photo ID policy, the photo must match my appearance on my test ticket (I didn’t have to submit a photo to register due to me being only in 8th grade) and it also has to match my appearance on the test day, and let me tell you, I changed a lot during those 5 years.
After a little internet searching, I discovered that the SAT Photo ID Form is a plausible way to solve my problem! Hooray, right? Well, soon after I also found out that my school is not able to notarize that document, so now I’m stuck without a photo identification for test day. Should I try calling CollegeBoard and ask for assistance, because I really don’t know what to do right now…
You can find a notary locally. A bank, pharmacy, town hall, etc… It costs a few dollars. Get it notarized tomorrow.
Around here, every (not absolute) Mailboxes Etc.or FedEx/Kinkos office has a notary.
@billcsho My school gives us student ID cards but it lacks a photo, which is the whole point…
@Lindagaf Do I have to bring any kinds of documentation (passport/anything that verifies my identity) because if notarization requires you to bring photo identification, it kind of defeats the purpose of what I’m trying to do. Also, do I have to bring a picture of myself to get notarized, or will they take my picture on the spot? I’m not really familiar with these kind of stuff, I’m only 13 after all.
By the way, are you sure pharmacies offer notary services?
@sushiritto So my local post office will be able to notarize the form?
No, not the U.S. Post Office. Do you have a Mailboxes Etc. or FedEx/Kinkos nearby? These are private businesses. If you do have them available to you, then I’ve never visited one that doesn’t have a notary. They charge $20 here locally. Takes about 5 minutes.
Oh another alternative is here in CA, we have title companies. All title companies have staff notaries.
@sushiritto I’ve never even seen a FedEx office before… And what exactly are title companies?
You’re in the US, correct? Your town hall should certainly have a notary. You should take your picture at home and bring the ID to a notary ASAP. Most offices close by 4:00 pm on Fridays.
All the places mentioned above have notaries. Ask you parents to find one. Or ask friends to ask their parents. You said there is a form on the SAT website, so do whatever it says. You ought to bring some kind of documentation. Bring a birth certificate if it’s handy, a school ID, your old passport, whatever. It won’t be an issue.
@Lindagaf Thank you for the advice, hopefully I’ll get this thing notarized by tomorrow.
@TheThalamus Yes, I’m in the U.S, though I’m not sure if my city have a town hall, I would guess that there is something equivalent. I think I’ll have my mom drive me to a nearby UPS office or a nearby bank to get this thing notarized…
If anybody else have any alternatives to suggest, please tell me. Thank you all.
My bank will notarize a document for free, try that…
I’d be utterly shocked if your town didn’t have the equivalent of a town hall or court. Have you asked your parents about your dilemma? They may have more thoughts on your local situation.
@TheThalamus My mom suggested my county’s circuit court, I’m uncertain if they offer notarization though.
