Hi:
I took the SAT at the end of my junior year and scored a 2280. The only section I did horribly on was the (damn it) reading with a 680. I'm still contemplating retaking it because supposedly colleges stress the critical reading section now as a predictor of university success. Also, with a lame 680, I guess it shouldnt be too difficult to up that to at least 710 above, perhaps?? Should i retake the SAT, and what good will it do me? I suppose the 2280 will also be my early action score, not too flattering considering that I may apply ED to Stanford :-( Thanks, I welcome all suggestions

BUMP please

30 points will not make or break your admission chances. Instead, focus on the rest of your application.

perhaps 710 is too low a score...i should aim for 750, but exactly how stressed is the reading section compared to the other two?

^It's not going to make that big of a difference. Some colleges don't even count the writing score.

Move on.

I think that as long as you get a 2300+, no matter what the combination, you'll at least not be taken out of consideration, especially since (judging by your sn) we're asians. Also, maybe look into the ACT if it's not too late?

hmm ACT. i figured that since i already got 800 on math and writing, i have 4-5 good months to slowly up my reading score cuz they "look" at the top scores, right? and-eh hem-thanks for the asian encouragement thing lol

Eh, I felt the Critical reading section was one you just need to get the right reading list for. I'll quote myself from my advice column on how to score higher in CR:

This worked for me, as I went up 100 points in that section. Also a Kaplan and Barrons 2400 book doesn't hurt as some last minute readings.

thnx a lot mike(n)...i will definitely read up on those b/c one problem i had was finding the right authors to read (i no the collegeboard gives out a reading list)
