SAT Reasoning Math = 700. SAT Subject Test Math II = 800.

Does the Subject Test score cover up for the Reasoning score? How does this reflect on my app?

That you know slightly advanced math but suck at problem solving - is what i heard from someone. Personally, I think it covers up so I woudln’t worry too much about it.

On the SAT II, you can miss a few questions and still get an 800. On the SAT Reasoning, a few missed questions can end up being a 700.

I wouldn’t worry much about it, but if you feel like you can get an 800, then retake.

if you believe that you can increase that score, definitely retake.

^ I don’t want to retake since it will be my 3rd attempt. :(

I have very similar scores… high SAT Subject Test Math Level 2 score and low 700’s for the practice tests I’ve taken for SAT Math.
There is a huge difference between the types of questions asked. The SAT Math focuses on geometry and algebra and basic problem solving. The Math Level 2 focuses more on Pre-Calculus and does not really require much application (although for me the time constraint was much more of an issue.)
I’m not sure how colleges may view this. I don’t think they’ll see it as a great disparity, since they understand that each test tests completely different material. I think they look at the two scores on their own merit and do little comparison or justification of each score based on the other. Just my opinion.

I think the colleges look at it as the SAT Math I Reasoning test, although requiring less advanced mathematical knowledge, is the best indicator of your aptitude for math. The SAT II is seen as a test of how well you learned the material in your Pre-calculus class and is an indicator of how diligent a student you are. The Math Reasoning score is probably most important for people planning to major in subjects like Mathematics, Physics and Astronomy because it is probably a better predictor of your ultimate potential to learn very advanced concepts in math than the SAT Math II which only shows what you achieved in a course that is still pretty basic by college standards. A score of 700 on the Math Reasoning does still show a fairly high aptitude for math and combined with the 800 on the Math II shows you are a dedicated student who makes the best of his potential.

If you ace your Subject Test math, then it replaces your Reasoning math. The Math II course tests mathematical knowledge which you might not have finished yet in your senior year. Considering this, a few questions can be omitted on this level. However, since the reasoning math is pretty much straightforward, there is not much breathing space, especially if you’re looking at a perfect score. So, you can play with that extra bit on your subject tests, if you’re confident of your high school knowledge.
On a different note, 700 is an acceptable score, if you aren’t just looking at Ivies.
