Does MIT accept SAT scores from my freshman year of high school? Because I really don't want to retake it. (2380)

Usually not, but you have such a high score that I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t mind you just sending that. Honestly, if I were an admissions counselor, I would be more impressed seeing a freshman score that high than a junior or senior. I don’t know if my sentiment is shared with the adcoms themselves.

Not sure how much this helps, but I asked MIT if they’d take a sophomore score, and they said yes.

By the way, that’s an awesome score!

Yes! My son got an 800 on the Physics SAT II in 8th grade and they were fine with that score. :-)

I’m not sure why moonman is saying that they don’t usually take scores from freshmen year. There definitely shouldn’t be a problem with that score!

Thank you everyone.
I was just worried because everyone kept saying that I had to retake the test.

I’ll agree that it shouldn’t be a problem. My son’s ACT score was from sophomore year and his SAT II’s were both from freshman year and no one questioned them at all. They have to have seen this before at schools like MIT - I’d expect more questioning or a hard time from State U!

I have just read that for the most part, colleges prefer scores from junior and senior year in that they may show the student in the best light following in and out of class preparation for the tests. But obviously if you have done exceptionally well, as the OP did, there would be no reason to take it again, unless he/she wanted to shoot for a 2400.
In conclusion, OP will obviously be fine sending in this score :)
