SAT score to get into Texas A&M university

I am top 18% at my high school. I got a 1180 on my SAT i was wondering if this is good enough to get into Texas A&M (not the engineering school). I know it is not automatic of 1300 but it is the best I could do.

According to USNews, its middle 50% range SAT, including writing section, is 1600-1930 making yours way too low; if your 1180 excludes writing score, then middle 50% is 1100 to 1310, meaning you are within it.

From the Texas A&M website:

“Applicants should evaluate their test scores and decide if retaking the test is necessary to make their score competitive. The average SAT and ACT scores of the incoming fall freshmen class were: 1210 (Verbal + Math) SAT; 26 ACT composite. Applicants applying to the Dwight Look College of Engineering are required to meet a minimum math score of 550 on the SAT or a minimum math score or 24 on the ACT.”

This infers that A&M will be giving greatest consideration to the SAT Math and CR scores. So you are 30 points below the average for the incoming class. You are statistically in the running. How’s the rest of your CV?

TAMU

Test Scores
Middle 50% of First-Year Students

SAT Critical Reading: 530 - 640
SAT Math: 570 - 670
SAT Writing: 500 - 620
ACT Composite: 24 - 30

The bottom of the mid-range is 1100. That’s not a good place to be for a good chance. Those at the bottom are often special admits…athletes or kids with high rankings, high GPAs, but low test scores.

RE…CV…I’m not sure, but TAMU may mostly admit by stats and not by ECs and such. Many publics get so many apps that they mostly just use formula admissions…test scores, rank, and GPA.

did you take the ACT? If not, you should.

Where else are you applying?

What is your major?

Is money an issue? Or will your parents pay for wherever you go?

M2 – By CV I was referencing the other criteria listed as “Most Important” and “Important” on A&M’s Common Data Set report. They indicate that besides Rank and test scores they also look most closely at rigor of curriculum, GPA, talent/ability and extracurricular activities. The application essay is considered “Important.” This indicates that A&M admissions are about more than just stats. But maybe they are just blowing smoke?
