I have heard MBA graduates say they went to Wharton instead of saying Penn, but I have not heard undergraduates say that. MBA students are often not involved in the broader Penn community, so the situation is very different.

Other Penn undergrads will not respect you just because you are in Wharton, you will have to earn their respect through your actions.

Many Penn students are very humble in talking about their achievements, but do not be fooled into thinking this means they haven’t accomplished much, often the opposite is true.

It’s funny because I’m a Penn student and all of my classes so far have been incredibly social justice based. I’ve had countless readings devoted to educational imbalances between majority and URM students, especially when it comes to standardized testing. Attitudes like WhartonnotHYPS are the ones we spend all class criticizing. I advise you to not let that part of you show in your application because Penn is certainly not a fan of it!

Honestly I think even the majority view at Wharton has become more developed or diverse in the last 10 or so years. Given where we’ve been in the economy in the last 6 yrs, I think there are more Wharton students (by no means the majority) who understand that the Wharton to Wall Street pipeline is not the only thing that matters. There are more Wharton students on both the undergrad and MBAs levels who are pursuing jobs at operating companies, start-ups, gov’t etc. As that trend has continued for a number of years, I think the view at Wharton – esp among the MBAs who were out there having to deal with this economy – has shifted a bit and is not longer about “we’re the best and will make the most money of anyone here.”

LOL: this is a FUNNY thread! It’s been the throw down on WhartonnotHYPS thread! He/She’s the exact kinda student who wonders why top colleges reject him/her and don’t realize that LOR writers intimated the entitled attitude or their "top"essays drip of it.

Lol. Whartonnothyps sounds like he has never been near the penn campus yet. Wharton is probbaly more respected on wall street than cas because its a business school (even though I have wharton friends who think whartons overrepresntation on the street put them at a disadvantage to cas students). On campus, the pre-med student who has arguably the hardest schedule in college will not respect you cause you chose business (i.e wharton). I am sure you have great stats cause of your overconfidence, but I assure you that most pre-meds at Penn have better stats than you. Maybe the wharton dept. is more respected than the english department, but Penn med and the connected hospitals and science depts. carry more weight than wharton does.
