I took the SAT in dec and got a 1540, 6/4/6 on the essay. I retook it in March to raise my essay score, and got a 1510, 8/7/8 on the essay. My math score remained the same: 790, but my CR dropped from 750 to 720. I know superscore will save me, but does that drop (instead of improvement) look really bad to colleges? Also, should I retake it at this point? I wanted a 1550 or above, but with this latest score, I’m unsure.
I’m no expert or anything, but I would not worry at all about a 30 point drop… that’s not significant at all. As far as whether you should retake, I would probably say no. Again, others may disagree, but I feel like the benefits of focusing on finishing the year strong outweigh the very small advantage you would gain if you were to raise your score by 20-30 points. Don’t take the test again. You have better uses of your time. Also, you may appear test-obsessed to some admissions officers.
