Superscoring Higher Essay with a Lower SAT Score

I just got my January SAT score back and my score dropped significantly, from 1550 (770 R/W and 780 Math) in December to 1460 (710 R/W and 750 Math) now. I would largely attribute this to the fact that I had spent the prior week practicing for my All-State Music Festival audition. The only improvement was my essay score, which went from 18/24 to 24/24. If I were to superscore, should I send both scores with the intent of combining my 1550 with the perfect essay score? Or will this poor performance backfire on me (in other words, is it better to just not send this score at all)? Is it possible for me to just send in my January essay score and omit the other parts? Thanks.

My first thought is why in the world did you retake a 1550? Second, I’m not sure schools superscore the essay portion, nor do I know how many care about it.

@“Erin’s Dad” well, the 1550 was my first sitting and most recommend taking it twice. In hindsight, it was a bad idea to schedule it during the weekend of an important audition and the weekend between my midterms.

my scores went from a 1430 in December to a1380 in January…and I did significant test prep for the January test?? Im trying to determine which of the two test is the outlier? have you taken it more than twice? I have not

NVm see you have only taken it twice…will you take it again or go to the ACT…I am debating…interestingly enough my percentiles went up even though my scores went down…thinking several people have had the same experience
