SAT Scores and EC's

I got my SAT scores back today.

780 Math
750 Critical Reading
700 Writing
2230 overall.

Are these good enough to make up for a 3.74 GPA?
I also attended summer seminar last week.

Should I join a few random clubs senior year just to have EC’s?
Like as of now I have a club I founded an organization called Teens4Troops where we make care packages for/greet soldiers. And I will be in orchestra for all four years. NHS too, but everyone has that. I will also be walking on to the varsity lacrosse team at my school.

Thanks in advance!

I would say no, that is not what USAFA is looking for. Join them if you want, but only if that is what you want to do. If it is just for another EC, don’t worry about it, focus on where you have leadership opportunities

I think your SAT score is pretty solid, and your GPA isn’t bad… however, I think it would be best if you can picture yourself in the application in a unique way that many others have not yet done. How about connecting with some international humanitarian organizations and work with them? Here are some that I can think of:
InKAs ([InkAS , Youtheca](http://www.youtheca.com/activity/inkas))
Solar Cookers International ([Solar Cookers International , Youtheca](http://www.youtheca.com/activity/solarcookers))
UNICEF ([UNICEF - UNICEF Home](http://www.unicef.org/))
RedCross ([American Red Cross](http://www.redcross.org/))

Check some other activities out in google.com and contact them and see whether you may do something meaningful with them. Admissions Officers look at how you can “hang out” well with a variety of differnet people…> I hope you have a great summer and have a great time!!

At least for our area LAX is a spring sport, thus, it won’t even be in your packet. The AFA looks very hard at athletics for various reasons. I.E., varsity sports also show leadership and time management skills. Carrying a 3.7 gpa, and doing sports, plus other ec’s proves you can juggle everything pretty successfully. The other issue is the AFA is always concerned with their altitude, thus they want sports.

I would suggest you really practice that CFA to max it out. This will relieve them of any concern regarding athleticism.

One thing to understand about the gpa is that it is not just the gpa they look at. They look at class rank, course rigor, rigor of the school, and profile of the school.

For example, if you are top 5%, took every AP, and the school sends 50% to Ivies, and 50% to 4 yr it will not hurt you to have a 3.4 gpa. If your rank is top 20%, 2 APs and the school send 20% to 4 Yr, 50% to 2 yr., it will hurt you.

You have similar GPA and SAT I Score as I had when I was a highschool student back in 20008. I also happened to be in the orchestra so I guess that explains something.
