First score: Nov 2009 CR 710 M 790 WR 730 Total 2230
Second score: Jan 10 CR 750 M 800 WR 750 Total 2300
Difference: CR +40 M +10 WR +20 Total +70
Reason: I dunno… The tests were only 2 months apart and I didn’t study at all. I think the second score correlates better with my actual ability. Took it again because I was sure I would get a better score.

Practice test 1: 2040
Practice test 2: 2080
Difference: +40
Reason: I’m not really sure; my actual SAT score was higher than even the second practice test, but I am looking for another 150+ point increase in the future.

First score: 2290 (800 cr, 780 writing, 710 math)
Second score: 2320 (750 cr, 770 writing, 800 math)
Difference: (+/-) +30
Reason: (if applicable) Pure luck. i’m surprised I didn’t make a stupid mistake on the math section which is usually what happens to me. and also more familiarity with the way the test works i guess i was less nervous as compared to the first test

Practice tests and actual January test, in chronological order:

Practice test 1: 2040 (April)
Practice test 2: 2020 (July)
Practice test 3: 2160 (August)
Practice test 4: 2240 (October)
Actual SAT: 2300 (January)

I took the actual PSAT a few weeks before practice test 4 (231).

Oct 2009: 2050(650CR, 770M, 630W-8 Essay)
January 2010: 2280(720CR, 770M, 790W-10 Essay)
Reasons: Daily practice in CR and W. I know I really wouldn’t wanna hear that answer but in the end, that’s what gets you places. PRACTICE. I did either full CR or W parts of a practice test almost everyday. In other words, the 3 CR MC sections or the 2 W MC sections everyday.

First score: 2230 - 700 M, 730 Wr, 800 Cr
Second score: 2300 - 770 M, 800 Wr, 730 Cr
Change: +70 points

Reasons: Didn’t prepare at all for Cr after my 800 b/c of overconfidence (also had an 80 on my sophomore PSAT, so I assumed it would drop too much); plus, I was counting on a superscore, so I didn’t see much reason to prepare for Cr. Also, I studied like crazy for the math section (50+ hours, for certain), and the writing…is inexplicable. I’d wager an easy test–just easy enough for me not to miss any, since missing even 1 MC on that particular test would have really hurt me.

+140 CR: I didn’t have a panic attack in these sections as I did in Dec 2009. I used the strategy of reading the little blurb, reading the questions, marking off the passages and focusing on the marked-off sections as I read. It wasn’t that I sucked at reading and comprehending, I just had a poor vocabulary and I was short on time in these sections. I managed to improve my vocab using DH and I just practiced a lot in CR.

+0 Math: I was confident for this so I didn’t put in anything new.

+60 Writing: wrote a killer essay (using two plugged-in examples and filling up the two pages) which improved my score from an 8 to an 11. My sub-score went from 70 to 71.

After the fiasco in Dec. 2009, I lived and breathed CR lol. I guess it paid off. I’m an international student and I got three impressive acceptances:
