I took the SAT in March and will take it again in either May or fall of my senior year. I just want to know how much I might possibly improve the second time I take it (I mean, I hope I improve haha). I know the better your score is, the harder it is to improve, like it's harder to improve 150 points from 2250 than it is from like 1500 or something. So for those who don't mind telling,
1. What was your first and second SAT score? And if you took it more times, how much more did you improve?
2. How much did you study (like hours per week and for how many weeks/months)?

2160 the first time (710 math 760 cr 690 writing) so I spent about three months studying (3 hours a week so not that much) only writing because that’s the easiest area to work on and my worst subject. Second time 2310 (800 math 800 cr 710 writing) so I actually didn’t improve in writing at all and got an 11 on the essay instead of a 10. I think the reason I got 800 in the other two sections is that I always had the potential but it comes down to silly mistakes and I had a very good nights rest the night before so I was very awake and concentrated the second time.

I took the SAT once. But I did take the PSAT. My SAT was 2360. My PSAT, which I know is not the same was 236 in Ohio. Yeah, it was a bit creepy. I hate think a test can “know me” so well. In the end it was coincidence. I had a brief thought about taking the SAT again to get a perfect ‘old SAT’ score (Cornell used this) because I was 790 in Reading and 800 in Math. But I felt if I was not admitted with how it was, then I was not going to be admitted (thankfully it turned out better than I hoped). Also, even if a 770 on the Writing is very good, I hate that test. It is just misleading to think true writing can be judged in the way they judge it a misnomer, like Science on the ACT (I got a 35 composite on the ACT, and one friend with a learning disability got a 27, but since he had unlimited time, he got a 36 on Science, yet he is awful at it, because it is truly about forgetting how well you are at science and taking the exam fast by perhaps reading the question before any graph or chart, which I figured out afterward, unless one has unlimited time!). Oh and on my PSAT the breakdown was 80 Math and then 78 in the other two. I think if you are aiming at a certain school and want to not let it knock you out of contention, you should take the test twice, but perhaps the ACT if you think you can hit a higher accepted percentile composite. I have this hunch the ACT scores are just a TAD lower because the ACT is the test in more Southern schools and they don’t want to discriminate by test. Then again, it could just be that when they list the SAT scores, they don’t list the totals usually, which is going to be less than averaging the three separate test, just by probabilistic laws (harder to do well three times).

Im international student from non-english speaking country. I got 1760 on March SAT (M720 W570 R470). This was my first exam. Im going to take May SAT and receive x>1860. Now im focusing on Writing and Reading.

First Time (Nov '12) - 1850 (M 560, W 620, R 670)
Second Time (Mar '13) - 1950 (M 580, W 680, R 690)

The first time I did absolutely no test prep and the second time I did minimal (4 practice tests/review some writing/math concepts) practice. Studying really hard for the June one - hoping to get a 2200+

2030 (680 CR/650 M/700 W/8 essay) in March 2012, aaannd

2210 (760 CR/650 M haha/800 W/11 essay) in October 2012.

180 point difference. I just did more practice tests in preparation the second time; I didn’t feel like I took the first test very seriously, so the second test I tried somewhat harder. But it helped that I had prepared more, also.
