SAT Scores

On the old SAT I got 1520 (800M/720V)
On the New SAT I got 2210 (790M/680V/740W)

Princeton says they only look at your best results, so would these scores be good enough not to hurt me in the admissions process, provided that everything else is very good?

Don't worry about it. They do mean it when they say these things. Let's not be cynical now ;) As long as your other credentials are on par with the average applicant's (or beyond), then your scores shouldn't hurt you! Good luck!

Thanks. Lets just say my verbal score is by far the worst part of my app...

Any other opinions?

I also got a 680 on the verbal... it's also one of the worst parts of my app... but I'm still alive. Just focus on developing your other strengths. This way you should have a well-rounded application: replete with decent test scores and several strengths. Good luck to you!

1 more word of advice for you: DON'T put CC as your favorite website on the Princeton application (I mean unless of course there really are NO other sites you can think of). If that's the case.... God help you!! Just be creative! ;) :D

LOL!

Hey I have similar scores too. Would RSI and some major nat'l science awards (Best in Category at ISEF, SWC Reg. Finalist) make up for that?

Not unless you've got some other passions and achievements and don't come off as solely 1 dimensional (a.k.a. just a science buff - nothing special). Good luck to you and congrats. Just don't pat yourself on the back too much. You could still very well be rejected for being 1 dimensional. Be creative. Be different. Be well-rounded. My 2 cents again.

-Jon ;)

But wouldn't extreme excellence in one area be impressive? Thats probably better than being mediocre in a bunch of things.

Extreme excellence in one thing is great but there are a lot of applicants with that. And I never suggested mediocrity anywhere. Obviously an applicant who is mediocre in many things shouldn't bother applying to the Ivies. But being solely 1 dimensional won't help. Extreme excellence and PASSION in various areas is the best way to go!
