SAT scores

do they matter for employment?! say someone wants to go into ibanking or consulting, would firms ask for sat scores?!

Yep. Several HFs/trading firms ask you for your SAT scores (its basically used like a primary screen). I am not fully certain about banks but they may do so as well.

Unfortunately they do which I find is complete bullcrap. Basically 5-6 years have passed since you took it and screening should be focused more on what you did recently in terms of internships or university studies.

***?????
i knew that the gay sat scores that i got would be haunting me for the rest of my life.

granted that this is more motivation to study over the summer.

where does the screening hit...like anyone under a 1400 they wont look at...jw cuz i got a 1350...geez this kinda blows..oh well

really they ask for SAT scores??

I know of a HF where its 1500. Its a rather ridiculous example though.

do you post it on your resume or do they ask for it?

Some directly ask.

SAT scores will matter for a long time, likewise with college GPA.

D.E. Shaw's Prop Trading group requires a 1500 SAT score for instance, I've seen others that require 750 or higher on the math section.

As said in the thread I posted above, NEVER include your SAT scores on your resume once you graduate high school.

Yep dcfca is right (thats the group I am referring to). Of course you need to keep in mind that they accept one dude out of 500 and they have enough IMO medalists to create an army.

Do they require it for both experienced hires and recent graduate or just recent graduates?

Very very very few firms care about your SAT scores. Most of the ones that do only ask recent graduates.

I am not sure. They do ask SAT scores from PhD graduates though.

Of course its not like getting a 1500 is enough. You better have a 1500 and accomplishments to classify you as a small Einstein level intellect to even have a shot at getting in. DE Shaw is an extreme example.

Just because they ask for SAT scores, though, does not mean that they actively make hiring decisions based on them. They may, but you'll find that many firms that do ask for your SATs scores do so as part of a boilerplate application that you fill out and it has little to no effect on their hiring decisions. While SAT scores (and your college GPA) may matter for some firms, the vast majority could care less beyond your first job.

Yeah god damn SATs. I got a 2110 and while it is not terrible, it was definetly my weak point during the whole application process.

from the posting-

The ideal candidate will have an outstanding academic record, a high level of computer literacy, a demonstrated interest in finance, and an aptitude for trading. Prior experience is not required, but some financial exposure is a decided advantage. We are looking for candidates who have a 3.7+ GPA and a combined 1500+ on their SAT.

The posting is clearly for recent graduates--I'm sure that their hiring criteria for experienced candidates are different.

As I said, your SATs may have some bearing on your first job (and it's not often that they do), but I highly doubt that anyone will ever consider them after that. You college GPA may be a major factor in your first job, but will also have little to no bearing on your future after that first job.

omg........... this is crazy.
