If my SAT scores are 10 below the average score of a college, do you think that is TOO bad of a difference??

No.
10 char.

I'm gonna say it depends. At some schools, there are a lot of recruited athletes and hooked applicants that bring down the average score. At these schools, it wouldn't look good to get below the "average", even 10 points, unless you have a hook yourself.

I believe that 10 is an insignificant number on a 2400 point test, but that's just my opinion :)

Only exception: 2390 - 2400 (there's a difference there :) )

I was just saying how even if you get a score equal to the average, it may not be good enough due to hooked applicants skewing the average. the 10 points is insignificant. it's like saying, "I'm 10 points off from 2200", but you really should be at 2300 or something.

^I think you've let CC corrupt you.

hahaha, probably true.

It's just that I'm very wary of these "average scores" that universities report

10 points is not too significant that you shouldn't apply...

thank you very much!!

I would take it again and get 10 points above the average, but that is just me :)
