SAT Scores

I just got an idea to help the future SAT Takers improve their results. I guess many students, especially International Students know how to really prepare for the SAT and how much time should be allocated…

How about everyone who already did the SAT post a message with:

Your SAT I / SAT II (do mention your subject!!) Results

The date you the took the test

The approximate time (per week) you revised for the test (6 months preceding the exam)

Your main resources/references (e.g. SAT books, Teachers, Private Tuition, Online Revision sites, etc…)

n btw … “Old” 1600 scores are also relevant ;-)

I don't know if this is relevant since I took the old one, but maybe.

May 2004 SAT I: 1370 (700V/670M)
did nothing for prep

Oct 2005 SAT I: 1520 (760/760)
spent about an hour a night for the entire week before doing practice tests out of the Princeton Review prep book, also made sticky notes of vocab lists from that book and put them all over the house, haha... definitely helped on two questions.

it definitely wasnt the classes since ive been taking classes since frehsman year.. and the massive improvement is just.. like sudden magic. u just suddenly go "ohh verbal passages FINALLY MAKE SOME SENSE now"

t3h, I hope you're not referring to the jump above 2200... cause they added a section that helped that... =P hehe, I'm only kidding, good scores!

PSAT 2004
190/240 (61R,60M,69W)
1200 "old" equivalent.

Took classes that ended 3 months before the test. Did not really study. Just went to classes and slept a bit.

You know I did well on the new SATs and people always ask me "Where did you go?" or "What did you do?" and I think that the major problem with this question is that people are looking for some magic answer to their problems that they expect to find from a class. I'm not saying any of you are.. I'm just addressing this issue in general I guess. It's just..well there were kids in my class who went and barely did the work and ended up unhappy with their scores (in the 1600 range on the new SAT) and I've heard them say "It's so stupid...I worked so hard and went to a class and everything." It's like people think that sitting in this classroom and staring at the walls is going to help them soak up all this information. I went to class and I did my homework and I had all those books (CB book, PR book, Barrons, Kaplan..the works) and I actually took the tests and read the chapters. So I guess what I'm trying to say is...remember not to kid yourself and say "GOd I really did study" when all you REALLY did was sit there with a book in front of you. Again...haha I'm saying "you" but this isn't directed at anyone. I just notice a lot of kids coming up to me at school and wondering where I went to class..and I have to tell each one of them to remember that it's the individual and not the class who will make the difference in the end.

Sorry that was so long. By the way good luck on the upcoming SAT/SATIIs/APs for all of you who are taking them! =)

SAT I: 2400 (March 2005)
Math IIC: 800 (sometime last year)
Physics/Chem: Tomorrow (Oh God...)

None (I was planning to, but I kept putting it off, until finally, on the night before the SAT I looked through a review book. Don't wait until the last moment, people.)

I looked through Barrons for the math, and I had the College Board book for the SAT, but I didn't really use it.

Furthering what acacia said, I think a lot of it has to do with how well you take tests. For some people, it's just there, like some kind of natural magical ability. That's not to say that you can't improve by studying and practicing, but I do think a lot of it is just dumb luck. If you've done well on state tests, standardized tests, and pre-tests, then you'll probably do well on the real thing too.

March, 2005 SAT: 800 CR, 800 W, 790 M = 2390
about 3-5 hrs a week preparing for the four months preceeding the test

hmm wow sometimes i wonder if im just a retard, or if most people on CC find a need to lie about their scores. does anyone else ever question it?

haha no, Kelly05, not THAT jump..

t3h, I know how you feel! I've always had trouble with the math section, but now I look at it and think "wow, this makes sense now!"

^^ Hehe, good. And yes, I think a lot of egomaniacs with rich fantasy lives:their scores :: pamela anderson:breasts

hey whats the point in lying here? U wont get any rewards or admission at a college if ur lie, the point here is to help other people know how much you got - and the amount of work you have to done to get that score.

It will somewhat help others to realise the average volume of work they should do to get a certain score and what are the best resources available out there!!!! I trust dat none of u rnt that egocentric to think only of the nice comment someone will drop if u say u got 2400...

Thanxs...

yeah..
and a large point about perfect scores is theres a huge factor of luck. always. (besides math.. math is PURELY how careful you are, for most)..
and since im asian.. verbal is a crapshoot :D writing i missed 5 questions = 730. interesting how 5 bubbles couldve made such a big differnece.
buy PR 11 real SATs and just do them. all.

I seriously DO NOT believe ---> 2400 (or 1600) : No Prep.

G-d bless you if you did get that score, but please ADMIT you prepped. Just do it!

June 2004: 1470 (800 M / 670 V)
no prep

March 2005: 2220 (800 M / 720 CR / 700 W)
took class in fall of 04, then no prep before test.
