October scores come out on 10/20. Son has not sent any scores to any schools yet. Would like to see how he did before sending and in order to save $ is thinking that he will just send all scores on the 20th/21st.

Question: How long will it take for these scores to get to the colleges? Some colleges have EA dates of 11/1.

Should he send scores in 2 transactions to make sure something is there by 11/1?

Also does anyone have a link to the collegeboard site where it shows how colleges view the scores? Across section/across test date etc?

If you order score sent October 20, it will likely take CB a few business days to process your order because right after a test is a very high ordering time. CB then takes the score and puts it into a secured on-line account that the college has with CB from which the college can download scores. How long it takes the college to actually “receive” the score thereafter is entirely up to it and just depends on how often it goes into the account and does a download which for some colleges is daily but then others may be weekly.

Thus, if you send regular delivery October 20, it is likely, but not certain, that the college will have the score by Nov 1. It may not, however, show up as received on the student’s on-line account for another week or possibly more because it can take the college some time to complete the process of matching the score with the student’s on-line account.

For almost all colleges with a Nov 1 EA or ED deadline, the test score does not actually need to be there until about mid-Nov (app deadline is not test score receipt deadline) and many even take Nov SAT scores.

However, if you are applying to Michigan EA, it recommends that you complete all testing before Oct and that the Oct SAT will be considered only if it is timely and to assure that it says you should designate Mich as one of your free sends on the application for the test and thus send the score blind (designating a college as a free send means the score is actually put into the college’s on-line account with CB two days before the score is released on-line to students). UIUC makes a similar suggestion although it is not as definite in suggesting that waiting until score comes out may be too late to send. Nevertheless for either of those, if you have a prior score, it would make sense to send it now because with both, as long as your file is deemed “complete” for EA, meaning you have provided the items required for considerastion for admission, you can supplement your file thereafter with new test scores.

Note, if you are considering “rush” sending the scores after they come out, you must check with each college because many state that they do not want scores sent “rush.”
