SAT Spanish Subject Test October 2011

I just finished taking this test (but I don't think we should begin discussing until a few hours after everyone from all time zones has taken it). Anyone else here attempt it (I was slaughtered...)?

I took it. It was very hard. I won’t discuss the questions, but I will say it was very difficult.

Could people share how they studied? If they put more emphasis on grammar or if they spent more time learning vocabulary.

I know I definitely got one question wrong. Does any one remember that reading passage where the narrator was talking about her mother waking up and taking the train to work? I put “hacia” for the question asking about the train traveling to Manhattan or somewhere. I thought I was correct in putting that, but suddenly I’m having doubts.

I didn’t study. I couldn’t figure out how to, so I just went in with the hope that my knowledge of Spanish would be sufficient. I left 8 questions blank, but as for the others, I feel as though I could have either gotten every single one right, or gotten 50% of them wrong. I felt like I couldn’t really judge how I did, either good or bad.

I actually thought it was very fair. Only left two blank. Feel pretty confident for a non native speaker. Didnt study

was one of the answers for the fill-in about the mom dressing for work a conjugated version of graduar?

also was “presencia” an answer for one of the fill-ins about guyana?

lastly, in the last passage, as soon as the passengers got off the bus, what did they do? i said they called a taxi…

one more:

it’s fue grabado
not estuvo grabado

correct?

Graduar - yes, i think so.

About the taxi, I said they laughed at her.

I don’t remember the other ones

Yay I got graduar too (: Is anyone 100 percent sure about the taxi question? I put that they laughed at her, but my friend said they got something else.

I don’t think it was burlar for the taxi question. I remember they got off the bus, and then they knocked over things and gathered their luggage.

I recognized the book so I got the exact sentence: "Los viajeros bajaron atropellandose y permanecieron en la acera para contemplar su equipaje. Consuelo se sintio una intrusa mirada por todos. – Un taxi…

?

I thought that they laughed because they used the word “carcajada” when she asked for a “hostal”

I don’t think it was ‘fue grabado’ because if I recall it was ‘_____ grabada’. I put ‘tuvo’.

As for the test, I didn’t think it was all that bad. The first section was easier than normal. I did about 10 practice tests overall, 1 of which was a released exam from Collegeboard. No doubt the Spanish test is a toughie, but this version wasn’t too bad, imo.

i’m pretty sure it was fue grabada -> passive voice, the past participle here is being used as an adjective

for the taxi one i put they helped her with her luggage…idk

also, what did you guys get for the questions involving lo cual, lo que, etc? i think i put lo cual for one of them, quien for another

yes I put fue grabada too. for the taxi ones, I put wichever one had maletas. i also put graduar. and i didnt put presencia, I dont remember what I put but it wasnt that

It was fairly easy. I’m non-native speaker, and I’m thinking I got a 790, hopefully 800…

Edit: I started studying Spanish serious a little over a year ago. I have studied it intensely since then (not for the SAT, but just to know the language). I got a 720 in April. But the key is to memorize a ton of vocabulary and know the grammar (It’s really not THAT hard.) I memorized the glossary in my Spanish 3 book, the Barron’s book, and the AP Barron’s book.

And don’t talk about the questions if people still haven’t taken it.

for the last question (~31) did you guys put las cansadas?
also for the one about mexican leyendas was the answer hacienda?

Lo cansadas. Herencia.

I felt pretty confident…I’m not a native speaker, but I watch a lot of Spanish TV :D

^ Soap operas? (;

Hahaha mostly news, but yes, I have been known to watch a telenovela or two in my spare time :)
