November 2011 - Spanish w/ Listening

What did you guys think? Any curve predictions?

On the listening part, did you say the girl couldn't swim because she had a cold or because she was disqualified? And her fastest event was the butterfly, right?

i skipped that question because i wasn’t sure, but i did say that her fastest event was mariposo or whatever it was.

what is the normal curve for this test like?

by the way for the question about the bus going to the center of the city did you say “llegar hasta”?? what does that mean?

llegar hasta was the right answer. technically, it means “arrive until” but that’s how you would say “go all the way to” in spanish. so “llega hasta el centro de la ciudad” means “it goes all the way to the city center”

great! what other questions were there that were kind of tricky?

there was one that said “las dos hermanas, ____ padres son muy estrictos” and choices were something like cuya, cuyas, cuales, and cuyos.

I bet that tripped a lot of people up. The correct answer was cuyos, not cuyas, because it needs to refer to the padres, not the hermanas. I thought that one was tricky; it was very clear that they were deliberately trying to mess people up on that one.

also the last question, the one with the job advertisement in Mexico, the answer was "comunicar cort

Are we allowed to talk about the tests?

technically no, but that’s an unenforceable rule and everyone on CC does it so why not

Hahah. okay. The one with las dos hermanas is cuyos.
I thought the one with the job advertisement one was if the free in the afternoons or something. Was the question on the time zones corta siesta, or estrecha siesta?

the passage about deforestation: cinco porciento de _____ se corta. was it “los que” or “los cuales”.

@cugaz93 i said siesta corta. i’m pretty certain that estrecha means narrow or restricted…

I put los que…

deforestation was lo que, since it’s talking about a percentage, which is a quantity, not individual trees.

The job in mexico, you’re thinking of a different question. The question you’re thinking of said: what are the benefits of this job? And one of the answers was: you have afternoons free. But that was wrong, because they work “a partir de las 4 de la tarde” meaning they start work at 4pm. For that question, the answer was "reciben un porcentaje adem

i do not remember the job question at all… what were the answers to the first reading section?

The job questions were from that little advertisement, the last three questions of the test. refresh my memory, what was the first reading passage?

what was the answer to the question about what the book sale or whatever offered people with kids? can we also have a consolidated list of answers, por favor??

was it just me, or did you guys also think the listening was pretty dificil?

Okay, here is our consolidated list so far (in no particular order, I definitely cant remember the order)

mariposa

el autobus llega HASTA el centro

las dos hermanas, CUYOS padres

comunicar cortesmente con el publico

reciben un porcentaje ademas del sueldo

siesta CORTA

cinco porciento de LO QUE se corta

cuidado de los ninos

SE pueden

LE lo voy a devolver

el ALARMANTE problema

Post any questions you were unsure about, and I’ll add the answer to the list. I’m blanking a little on the listening questions, but once I hear the question, I’ll remember the answer.

shouldnt it be SE LO DEVOLVER? I THOUGHT YOU COULDNT USE LE LO/LA?
