Hi everybody,
I have 2 month until I go to exam.What I have done:
MATH.
I finished BARRON'S MATH Workbook. In general words, I feel like 75 % correct from 54 questions. My father is engineer-shipbuilder he knows MATH well and we will have several weeks to review all problems in this workbook. After then, shall I need GRUBBER'S MATH?
CRITICAL READING.
I have just started working on it. I have Direct Hits both volumes. And I'm learning 50 words in 2 days. After 2 weeks I will finish it and I will practice CR in BB.
WRITING.
I used silverturtle's golden guide, and learned half of it.But now I'm stoped.

So, here is the situation.
Everythink is right?
Thanks.
Suleyman.

Go To the College Board website and do the online SAT practice test. It is a real SAT and you can take break it up and do all the critical reading (3 sections), then all the math (3 sections), and then the grammar part of the writing section (2 sections).

The practice test provides explanations for every answer choice. You should look up every word you don’t know. Many will be in the DH books, but the ones that are not you should google and get examples of how the word is used so that you remember them. There will be a new practice test in late August or September. You should do the same thing when you start to use the Blue Book.

I have SAT Online Course.
Problem is I don’t know any word in CR in practice test. I plan to finish D.H in 1-2 weeks.I learned 100 words in 3 days. Then I will be able to practice in my pleasure. It’s more pleasure to get 550+ than 230.Look, if I will learn D.H it means that, in average, 13+20=33 questions=510 points in CR. Last WR result was 450. Now if I will practice a lot it won’t be a problem. And result I plan to get CR-500 WR-500 Math-600.
Right?
Thanks.

I think you misunderstood what was on CC. Direct Hits Books do not guarantee you in neither Sentence Completion nor Passage-based Reading since: 1) they are not released from the College Board, and 2) they are only a few frequently appearing words which are hand-picked from the author. So, basically, you cannot predict, say with DH, which words will be on the SAT until you have a more comprehensive knowledge of vocabulary.

I think you misinterpreted. While DH gives you a basic knowledge of the top-frequency vocabulary, it does not give added list of other words, which will help you to get a higher score on Sentence Completion. The English language isn’t made up of mere ~400 words. :)

I know it.But as I heard D.H both volumes will give you 500+. And this is all I need.I plan to enroll engineering university, so I don’t need very literature vocabulaty.=)

Memorizing DH cover-to-cover may help you get a higher score on Sentence Completions, but it won’t do much to improve reading comprehension, which is the majority of the CR section (48 questions). If you get every single sentence completion right and but miss many reading comprehension questions, that won’t get you a 500.

You need to improve your reading fluency as well, and the best way to do that is to read as much as you can and listen to conversations in English (through television or radio if you aren’t surrounded by native speakers). You don’t have to read Dickens or Austen; just start with lower-level reading material you feel comfortable with but contains some unfamiliar words, and work your way up from there once you’ve become more familiar with English sentence structure. I would suggest doing that before you start practicing CR in the Blue Book.

Thanks everyone.
chemicalnames,
first- I have some reading skills.I will do only that questions, in which, I’m sure 100% that they’re right.Doing reading passages is good for me. I tryed several until I failed with SC questions. Only problem was vocabulary, and now I have a chance to learn D.H and practice a lot with BB and maybe BARRON’S 2400. I want to make pleasure from study. For example, my friend( we were very close) he have been preparing 9 months for the SAT. He learned BARRON’S 3500+read 10 books+2 month intensive English courses in Boston. He gathered 2370 points.
Willy27,
my dearer friend, it’s no use to learn vocabulary without context. It’s impossible for everybody, especially for international student like me.
james11223,
As I said, first I must learn D.H both vol. and then I will be able to do everything.
