SAT Subject Math 2 - 770, SAT Subject Bio - 750, ACT 34 - retake??

Hi CollegeConfidential peeps,
My class of 2020 senior has the above scores and is concerned they are not good enough for some of the Ivies, especially the Math 2 score. Which ones of the above should the student retake? Math 2 subject? ACT? Bio subject?
Thanks for any guidance and tips!

Scores are fine. Work on the apps, especially the essays, and a good list of interests/accomplishments to give to your kid’s LoR writers and GC.

If my kid had a 99% ACT and two 750+ subject tests I would say “done with testing,” work on something else. And go celebrate with ice cream or something!

Thanks!

I don’t think it’s as straightforward as that, what major, other colleges outside of the ivies are you considering and if you don’t mind revealing what gender, race/ethnicity are you? An Asian STEM male with those score would probably have to take the math 2 again for MIT/Stanford/Cal Tech/Harvard for sure, that’s just the way it is. The 34 is borderline to take again.

Thanks for your feedback, this would be a for a female science major (bio) wanting to go a top program.

It’s such a hard call, but I agree that it depends on the major/schools/etc. I’m not that familiar with bio, but my DS20 who is planning to major in CS had the same dilemma. One of his SAT subject test scores was quite low (690 in Physics, but 800 in Math2) and at first he wasn’t going to re-take it. But we’ve since discussed it and he’s going to prepare more and take one last stab at it. He is applying to top-tier schools and has perfect scores, so this will be quite an outlier. I truly hope he does better and gets mid-to-high 700s because one of his schools requires ALL test scores be submitted, so the improvement would help. Crossing my fingers! Scores won’t get to at least one of his EA schools in time, but he will try to update them if he can. Good luck!

Good luck to you as well!
