Can taking a large number of SAT subject tests (presumably with good scores) make up for a low GPA?

Not smart, a significant percentage of them will want to transfer.

I don't quite understand your answer. What is not smart?

I think this is an interesting question. If a kid has strong SAT I scores (2200) but so-so GPA (3.4 uw) will colleges be swayed with strong SAT II scores? Has anyone seen this happen?

my question exactly!

a friend got a B- in biology but a 750 on the subject test and got into U Penn.

lol, nice.^
pretty interesting. my dilemma as well, cause my gpa sucks, heh.

I hope it does lol.
I have high SAT II but low GPA...

so anyone got an answer?.....

SAT II is ,of course, less important than GPA but it would definetely help. I think 4.0 gpa with low sat2 >>>>> 3.5 gpa with high SAT2

nooo! Why do universities care about GPA so much? Grades are subject and vary quite sharply from school to school - even from teacher to teacher! What can I do to make up for a low GPA then? There must be something

^^^^^ that's why colleges see your gpa+rigor of the curriculum+rank. Colleges don't just look at gpa...

I got in to Pomona College with a lowish GPA (unweighted 3.6, weighted 4.5)
An SAT score of less than 2000 and okay Sat II subject tests

I was waiting for the rejection letter for sure!

hmmm.... My school doesn't rank and only offers 4 AP courses... I suppose that helps?

my school doesn't rank either. yeah, i hate the whole idea of GPA. specifically, non-weighted GPAs. i mean, what the HEll is the point of a non-weighted GPA when AP/honors classes are 10X harder than regular classes. UGHHHH.

well, my school doesn't weight GPAs at all....

yeah i hate my gpa.

if someone gets say a 750+ on a subject test and got a B or C in the class it will raise questions i think

either A) they will think you were just lazy and didnt turn in homework and such or B) the class was a very very tough class and the grading scale was harsh.

I was at Vandy yesterday and they said they don't look at GPA at all. They look at grades in specific classes and course rigor, if that gives hope to anyone

either A) they will think you were just lazy and didnt turn in homework and such or B) the class was a very very tough class and the grading scale was harsh.

Option C): the teacher is perversely mean
