@Tapitennis You’re joking, right? Please tell me it’s a typo…
@homerdog My son is 2019 as well and we’re trying to take the SAT subject tests after each subject. The plan is to take 1 science (done), one humanities (any history, language or literature) and one math (Math II this year after he take pre-cal). We’re hoping that looks well rounded enough, and then can use extra tests to show interest (e.g., if essays show interest in history, take both WH and US History, if shows an interest in STEM, take Physics and Chem, etc).
What prep book did you guys use? I just got my score back and it’s terrible. Going to have to retake it next year
@lunarboy I used Barron’s and PR, However I feel like what helped me the most was taking an AP Bio course at my school. The textbook we used was Campbell, and I ended up with a 790 on Bio E. It’s a decent score.
Barron’s and PR here as well.
800 Bio M. AP bio did really help after all…
People are saying 750 is the cut-off for top schools. I got a 740- is that still okay?
780 on M! I omitted 1 and got 3-4 wrong, I’m guessing.
@nawwww - If you are targeting Ivies, I would recommend retaking it.
No, do you think i can apply to top schools with the 800? Because my parents only said i can do UMiami. So hopefully i proved them wrong :/.
@Tapitennis - 800 is too low for U Miami. They need 1000!
Is a 760 enough for Harvard?
750+ is good for all schools including Harvard
damn, i thought 800 was good. Ill retake in october…
800 is perfect on a subject test!!
I used barrons, PR, and kaplan review. Barrons had the best info. but pr was nice and concise. I wouldnt reccomend kaplan. Generally, barrons is harder than the actual test, so if ur doing well in barrons tests (750+). u are set for the real test. good luck!
@Tapitennis I think I understand your question. You have achieved a score of 800 on this SAT Subject test and question whether that makes you competitive to apply to the top schools. With equally impressive stats (e.g., GPA, other SAT subject test scores, and EC, awards, etc) I don’t see why you should not aim for them. But remember, scores on standardized tests are not the end all, be all to admission decisions. Good luck!
@Tapitennis - I was joking about score since I thought you posted it as a joke. As @thinkon said to get into top schools you need Good GPA, standardized test scores, good ECs, good LORs, great essays and some luck. Perfect scores don’t guarantee admissions.conventional wisdom is 750+ on SAT IIs are enough even for Ivies.
Got an 800! I finished the test in about 30 minutes, with 30 left to spare/review. Wasn’t totally easy, but I over prepared. I took AP Bio as well, but got a 3 on that (EW THAT TEST THOUGH). Did well in the class however, about a 96 average ((: Taking AP Bio definitely helped because I was able to go through most of the concepts, but it was a LOT of self-studying, plus I really enjoy biology. I used cliff notes for AP Bio, and then used that with a combination of websites with small quizzes, crash course, and constant studying/reviewing since spring break all the way until June. It definitely wasn’t easy, but it is definitely possible! Congrats to everyone who got the scores they wanted, and to those looking at this thread for next year, STUDY YOUR BUTT OFF AND GET OFF THE INTERNET!!
@pillowspillows today, I checked my score and j got an 800 on bio ecology… I swear to god when I checked with my friend, I got like 12 wrong. My friend also got an 800 too hahaha we made a Google document full of biology information and it got up to 30 pages (times new roman font 12) On the day before the test, we had a 7 hour cram session through google hangouts. We went over the document we created and went on the SAT college board subject test document. After that, we told each other topics we were weak in and explained to each other the topics. I had Barron’s and he had Princeton so we also exchanged the books earlier. Furthermore, we took practice tests together. On the test day, I had like 7 hours of sleep due to watching bio videos and cramming the night before. I finished the test right when the time ran out. I checked with my friend and thought I got a lot of them wrong. He also thought he got some wrong. Hahaha but today we realized that we most likely got problems that we thought we got wrong actually correct. We both got an 800 and I am actually shocked because I thought I got like 740 lol. My mom told me to retake it if I got 750 or below so I am pretty happy!!
