SAT Subject Test curves?

Can’t speak for all of them, but Chem seems to be closer to 78/79 out of 85 for an 800.

I have one question -

I took the Math 2 today, and did worse than I’ve ever done on all my practice tests.

Would it be better to cancel the score by Wednesday and re-take it in Nov. along with another subject test or would it be better to see how I do anyways and then re-take it.

Either way, I’m re-taking it. I just don’t know if its better for the colleges to see that I’ve taken Math 2 twice and improved the second time or if they see that I got an 800 on my first try…Though, there is the possibility that I might not get an 800 in Nov. also.

@ Eiffel: As I understand it, it’s one of the hardest precisely because it has a strict curve. It is still related to the difficulty of the test. I imagine most people will get fewer questions wrong on lit than on, say, physics… so the curves are adjusted accordingly. So while the physics test itself might be called “harder” than lit, it’s probably easier to get an 800 because you can get 7-9 (or whatever it is) wrong.

Take world history. The questions cover such a broad base of knowledge that basically no one would have a shot at answering them all correctly. Basically anyone who gets any 78 of the questions right is deemed as having a superlative grasp on world history.

someone-else, then again, a 770~780 on Lit is just as impressive, if not more, than, say, an 800 on Math 2. Right?

According to this site: Higher Education Professionals | College Board;

…the percentile for 780 lit is 98, whereas 800 math II is 89. So I suppose that would be a yes, lol.

guys what is the penalty you’re talking about ? I don’t know what it means ?

Wait didnt the SATII LIt test only have 60 Questions?

Yes. 60 questions for Oct exam

lol thank you…I thought I totally messed up my numbering

Guessing penalty means the points you lose by submitting the wrong answers, not omitting them.

can we try and update this? It seems like there are far too many topic about it.

You are all talking about a curve on wrong answers. But what if someone doesn’t answer 20 of the questions and only answers 30 of them. What kind of a curve are they looking at?

Sorry to bump this, but to answer 3rider (a year later)… I took a practice Math II barrons where I could only answer 30/50, left the others blank. I got 28 correct and that was enough for a 535. (■■■).

How did you get a 535? They are only scored in increments of 10.
