Will taking a subject test increase my chances of admission? My target university is UT and they are very test score and GPA based. My GPA is low but my test scores I think I can get very high. Is taking a subject test going to help and is it worth it?
I am guessing you mean University of Texas in Austin, although UT could refer to several other universities. Texas is now listed as a college that “considers” subject tests but neither requires nor recommends them. It explains what that means as follows:
“You are not required to submit SAT Subject Test scores as part of a complete application for admission. Some students may choose to submit these scores—for instance, home-schooled students may send them if they feel they reflect academic potential, or those hoping to earn course credit by examination may submit them for consideration after the application cycle is complete.” See https://admissions.utexas.edu/apply/freshman-admission#fndtn-t34-sat-subject-tests (and open SAT Subject Tests under Test Scores).
That does not sound like subject tests will increase your chances of admission by any significant degree if GPA is low, but if you have a low GPA, you should assume anything better, such as high subject test scores, might help at least a little.
