I took the SAT Subject test for Math II in August and got a 760. I retook it in October and my score dropped to a 740. I know that some colleges allow you to choose the scores you send in, but what about colleges like UCLA or Berkeley that require all scores to be sent? How bad will this look on my application?
UCLA and UCB only recommend SAT subject tests so they are not required. You can use score choice for SAT subject tests since they are only recommended.
What about others schools who do require all subject tests? Will having a worse score hurt my application?
Maybe. You had a high score to start with. I read an article in 2016 highlighting studies which show that as much as 40% of students who already have a top score will do worse on a retake. There are very few schools where a score close to 800 is pretty much essential for admission, and even with a score that high, it’s still insanely competitive. I’m thinking of CalTech and MIT in particular.
It’s probably marginally better that your first score was very high. I suggest you stop testing.
Let’s list those colleges that require all Subject Tests:
- Georgetown
- Ummm, that’s it. Just Georgetown.
As I told you on your other thread when you last asked, your mistake was taking the exam again. You played the odds and lost - move on. But you’re making a mountain out of a molehill. You’re talking the difference of one question. It’s not a big deal to anybody else.
