Hello i am a sophomore and this is my first sat subject exam that i will be taking and I am very worried. Im taking the exam in June and i was wondering if anyone had any successful studying tips or methods. I haven’t taken AP World history because my school does not offer it and I have already purchased the Barron’s book for the subject test. Any response will be appreciated, thank you!
Bumping this, also a sophomore taking SAT II World History. I’m self studying for it, as I’ve recently moved countries and had to switch my history class from world history (regular, old class didn’t offer advanced levels) to Canadian history – thus, I only have a semester of world history, which was mostly European history from the 16th century up until World War One. I purchased the PR SAT II World History book. Any tips would be extremely helpful.
Also a sophomore taking SAT II WH. I would love any advice- I am currently taking the AP class.
i’m also a sophomore taking the world history subject test. i’m currently taking world history, and though my class is actually dual credit, we’re using the ap textbook. on the college board’s website, there are practice questions and an overview of the test available. from what i can tell, the test covers pretty much the same things that are covered in the ap textbook up until industrialization. so, the US is not included on the subject test. if you’re taking ap world history (or if, like me, you’re just using the book for whatever reason) you should be fine just reviewing what you’ve learned in class. otherwise, i’d definitely check out the college board website and their various resources for the subject tests. there are pdfs available to download that essentially go over what topics will be on the test. if all else fails, really you can just google things. there are a ton of free resources available around the web, from sat study guides to ap notes and general world history resources. there are soooo many tumblr blogs dedicated to ap/sat/college admission resources and advice. literally you just search the sat subject test tag and you’ll come up with something. another great resource for college and testing in general is theprospect.net
in terms of study advice, it kind of depends on how your brain works. that’s something you kind of have to figure out yourself through trial and error. try every method you can and stick with whatever works best. i, personally, can’t really deal with super complex study methods, so i generally just write my own notes in an outline format and highlight the most essential information. if you’re a visual learner, this method or something similar could be helpful, as well as flashcards. for this test, it doesn’t really have to be all that complicated. if you’ve taken a world history course, especially an advanced one, you’ve already got most, if not all, of the material down. the practice questions are insanely helpful because they give you an idea of what sort of questions will be asked and in what format, but also because the practice questions on the website give you explanations for all the answers. i’ve taken notes from those explanations for the topics i don’t know as well. you don’t necessarily have to be an expert in every topic covered on the test, so the explanations on the practice questions give you just enough background on those topics you’re not familiar with that you have at least basic knowledge.
i’m not sure what’s in the study guides that you have to purchase (i actually have one on hold at the library atm), so all of this might have been covered in that book. if so, sorry that i wasted your time. i hope this was at least slightly helpful though? good luck, everybody!
