How do colleges use these scores? And what are "acceptable" scores?

Most colleges don’t require them. They’re just another part of your application that they take into consideration…they’re probably not that important in the grand scheme of things. 750+ is ideal.

Thanks, that’s what I was hoping @halcyonheather

For most schools they’re just another test to make your app stand out if you score well. Only some selective schools require you to have them as part of your application.

I know that most colleges I’m looking at require two (sometimes 3). On a related note, does anybody know how they view AP scores during the admissions process? @jkpascale16 @halcyonheather

AP scores are not considered in the admissions process for most schools. Scores are generally only sent to the college after you are accepted.

thanks @skieurope

In addition, AP scores are self-reported on the Common App (there’s no reason to have scores sent from the College Board until after you’ve been accepted and you’re trying to get college credit). Colleges outside the United States may require that you submit AP test results.

Correct. UK unis will require AP scores. In the US, schools like NYU will take AP scores in lieu of SAT II scores… In general, however, in the US, because they are only self-reported and because they are not required, AP test results are not considered for admissions.
