Does all Ivies and top colleges require you to submit all subject test scores or can you choose which ones to submit? Thank you
It depends on the college. Off the top of my head, I know Yale, Cornell, and Penn require all scores; the other Ivy League colleges do not. However, you should double check each school’s website (or call them) to confirm.
Even for schools that want all score, the policy on SAT2 may be different. You should really look it up for each school.
Georgetown and Penn require all SAT, SAT subject tests, and ACT scores.
Yale requires either all ACTs or alternatively all SAT and subject test scores; if you submit any SAT or any subject test scores, you must submit both all SATs and all subject tests.
Cornell is somewhat ambiguous but appears to require all SATs or alternatively all ACTs, plus all subject test scores.
Stanford requires both all SATs and all ACTs, but you can send whatever subject test scores you want to send.
Rice and Tufts require all SATs if you send any SATs but you can send the ACTs or subject tests you want to send.
Harvey Mudd requires either all SATs or all ACTs, plus all subject tests.
UCs’ rule is ambiguous. They require all SATs if you send any SAT but it appears you can send whatever ACTs or subject tests you want to send.
Barnard’s rule is ambiguous and not clear whether it allows or does not allow score choice except to say it “expects” applicants to submit all scores, and does so while mentioning submitting either SAT or ACT, but then declares it follows the spirit of score choice, and mentions nothing specific about submitting all subject test scores; of note is that Barnard is connected to Columbia which dropped its anti-score choice rule more than a year ago.
Pomona’s rule is ambiguous. it requires all SATs if you send an SAT and all ACTs if you send an ACT, but unclear whether you must send all of both those tests or all subject tests.
Syracuse requires all SAT scores if you send SAT but you can send whatever ACTs you want to send (it does not require or consider subject tests).
University of Colorado states that you “should” send all SAT or ACT scores “because” it superscores those tests, but that does not appear to actually be a requirement to send all scores. Since 2009 when College Board adopted score choice, some colleges, including Columbia, Carnegie Mellon and USC, which adopted anti-score choice rules in 2009, have changed to accepting score choice. Since 2009, no new college has adopted an anti-score choice rule. From what I have been able to determine, though there are many other colleges that encourage you to send all scores because they claim it can only help you such as via superscoring, there are currently no other colleges that reject score choice other than the 20 (12 if you count the UCs as one) that I have listed above.
Thank you!
I just looked on the Stanford site - it said they welcome all or any subject tests you have completed so I am assuming that you choose the ones you want to submit?
Thanks!
@nycgirl28 Yes, you can pick whichever SAT2 scores to be sent to Stanford and they are not required (but recommended) anyway. They do prefer Math2 over Math1 though. Also, >95% of admitted students there did submit SAT2 scores.
