So I know Duke strongly recommends subject tests if you’re sending just the SAT. I’m already taking Bio M in May. I’m also planning on taking Spanish in August because I only have 2 years of FL (I’m learning through an outside source and doing an immersion program over the summer. I was also considering taking Math 2 since I intend to be a STEM major, so I guess my question is, is every test considered or only the highest two?
Hi there!
Duke’s policy, as I know it, considers every test score you send them, including SAT Subject tests. However, when selecting scores to send, there is score choice, so you should be able to individually pick out the SAT Subject scores you wish to send, regardless of date taken. That being said, I wouldn’t send any scores you feel are less than satisfactory, though the true weight of SAT Subject scores I am sure is minimal compared to a high-quality essay, ECs, recs, among other things. Make sure to glance over how many mistakes you can make before the 800 buffer quickly drops.
However, I think your 3 subjects are incredibly saturated with test-takers, with many people taking (and acing with an 800) both Spanish and Math II (Spanish because native speakers, Math II because we’re all nerds), so if you take and send those, make sure they are on the higher end of the 700s. Biology M is also somewhat common, since E is less focused on in AP Biology curriculum, so aim high there too! I sent Bio M and Math II though, so don’t stress too hard about others taking it and focus on doing your best and submitting a wonderful application. Good luck to you on your exams!
