I’m wondering, how significant are SAT subject tests for college admissions? I’m applying to selective universities (Cornell, Michigan, uva, etc) in the fall. My average is a 94.8, my sat is a 1540. I have 2 5s and a 4 to submit. On my subject tests, I received a 730 on US history (considered a good score) and a 680 on math 2. Will this low score on math 2 have a large/any effect on my chances of being accepted into the schools I listed, or similar schools? Thank you. Btw, I’m planning on taking an English sat 2 and submitting that score instead of math, assuming I do well.
I think that they’re not weighed as heavily as the SAT, but they are considered indicators of your proficiency in the subjects/fields you want to study. If you’re planning on studying math and applying as a prospective STEM major, then submitting history and English might look rather odd, but if you think that those subjects are relevant to your areas of interest, then they will indicate your strengths in those subjects if you submit good scores.
I’m applying to study liberal arts, not STEM. Thanks for the reply.
I would not send in either score. This is because they are too low in comparison to other applicants’ scores, especially with those selective colleges. You pretty much need 800 to hold an advantage in subject tests. Otherwise, I would retake or forget about sending in your scores.
Sorry for being a pessimist, but in my experience, this is what the situation is.
