SAT Subject Tests

Should I take two subject tests if I plan on applying ED to Brown? I will be submitting the ACT with writing. 36 on the ACT but only 8/12 on the writing…

From Brown’s website:

Test Requirements: Applicants can satisfy our testing requirement in one of two ways: (1) Either the SAT with Essay, or (2) the ACT with Writing. We recommend, but do not require, the submission of two SAT Subject Tests of your choice. If you are applying to the Program in Liberal Medical Education, we strongly recommend one subject test in either Biology, Chemistry or Physics.

Recommend typically means required unless there’s a reason (financial, geographical) that make taking those a hardship.

Their website states that 2 Subject tests are “recommended”, which usually means required absent some extraordinary circumstance (e.g., affordability issues).

When you apply to top schools, at least 2 SAT2 subject tests are typically expected and scores need to be in high 700’s. It is a bit too late to ask questions on this, since many kids would have already taken SAT2 before their senior year, which means you should take the subject test at the end of year when you finishing that subject in either honor or AP class.
