Can someone tell me whether Math level 1 and level 2 count as two different subjects for Harvard admission?

No they do not.

I would not plan on it as doing so would not help your application. But I have seen the VERY rare acceptance (here on CC) of an applicant who claimed to have only submitted 2 subject tests.

The tests do count as two separate subject tests. However, the caveat on this is that you should avoid both taking them on the same test date and taking 1 after 2. However, say you just took geometry your freshman year and took 1 since it was fresh in your mind, and then junior year you learned up through pre-calc and took 2, this is more than reasonable.

Now I’m a bit confused. Could mathmom and huinsider explain where they got their information from?

Joe, regardless of any answer you get here, if you want to be certain the answer may be to call or e-mail admissions and get their answer.

Always take the Math II. Math I isn’t that highly regarded. In addition, the Math II has a much more lenient curve, albeit with more challenging material.
