SAT Superstitions

nice thread!

unfortunately, i have nothing to add to it. i don't get nervous at all about tests, so i don't worry enough to create superstitions.

i wear relatively the same thing:

The same black shirt--a small elasticy kind from Gap--with a thin white shirt underneath it. The white shirt is usually the the same kind as the black, but it's okay to wear a different one as long as it doesn't have too much writing on it. The same pair of jeans accompany the outfit as well. Shoes go between a pair of leather boots and some sneakers, though I usually go with the boots. But, the underwear cannot be red. I try to find a pair of grey boxer briefs.

Last week, for the PSAT, I cleaned my room--no clutter, everything was in order, feng shui of sorts. Then, before I went to bed, I kept thinking "I am the master of my world." I have a friend who is a psych major at U of M. He told me that doing this increases your confidence and gives you a better grip on things in your control. I was pretty confident and calm, so I guess it works :p.

Oh, and I make sure that my batteries are chaged the night before, and everything that I'm taking to the test center is on the kitchen island before I go to sleep.

oh - i forgot to add that i was the first car in the parking lot at all of my ACT testing dates - i found that getting all nervous is stupid, so i go and listen to music to relax for an hour, then other people start showing up and you can get a little bit nervous.

I get my pencils blessed. I don't really believe in that kinda stuff... Well, not normally, but around test time...HECK YES. My "magic sticks", as I refer to them, have gotten me a 1550 so far... Perhaps they weren't blessed ENOUGH, since I was a few verbal questions shy of a 1600. Hm...

modestmouse:

how do you bless your pencils?...i wanted blessed pencils.....

i forgot to mention i prefer to sit either in the 2nd or 8th row. preferably the 8th column second row. haha. i would use prayer, but i take my tests at a private catholic high school. i am buddhist, so whenever i think about praying to buddha, i see that picture of jesus in the classroom staring down at me. haha.

This is gonna be complicated. LMFAO. Okay, I am Sikh, as are my parents, but I've noticed that, Sikh or not, all Indians seem to cling to Hindu traditions... Anyway, my mother has pencils blessed by this Hindu priest(?)/"spiritual guide" person sent to us by mail. LOL... Like I said, it's pretty much b/s, but it's good for the psyche. You just convince yourself that the pencils actually do something and you walk in to the test room feeling pretty relaxed.

I do tai chi the night before. Helps me become more calm.

I touch the star on my chain on my night table while in bed and touch the right side of my pillow. NO IDEA WHY.

For any test of great importance I borrow all my pencils from somebody taking the same test. Worked wonders on final exams, SATs, and FBLA competitions.

I always wear my lucky orange shirt with a "3" on the back (my favorite number). Also, I play a classical piano piece after I get up in the morning, I listen to classical music on the way there, and I always have a banana to eat during the break. I make sure that nothing is in my pockets. The night before, I take a lot of vitamins, hoping that they will all go to my brain. I do this the morning of the test as well. I don't eat anything with sugar or caffeine the day of the test (more common sense than superstition). I make sure to eat sushi the night before the test and to stay up until 10:30, no earlier, no later. After the test, whenever I see something that has a number on it that could be an SAT score, I take it as a sign (unless, of course, the number is too low). During the test, I slouch to my heart's content, with no regard to the future condition of my back. More out of habit than superstition, I never leave an answer blank because it feels like a wasted opportunity. Call me particular, but these quirky superstitions and habits seem to work for me.

superstition?
let see, not study and play video games before and after the test

Teal: I blow a kiss.

i wonder if any of these superstitions worked this time. haha.

Something bad has to happen right after.

But nothing did.

superstitions work reverse for me, if i do them, it's bad luck, so i don't :)

haha modest mouse my best friend is sikh..she doesnt have blessed pencils. i pray to every freakin god from every possible religion there is...its really sad. just in case one of them is listening...=/

I also sleep with 10 R on my head on the left, i read it on this site once, and i think it might have worked. Also, i didn't shower or get hair cut for almost a month, which explain y i was scratching myself during the test. Plus, i ate alot of sugar, like not candy, sugar!!!! Just sugar with water :)

Red Bull. Enough said.

Everytime I take a test I bring my gf's pencils, necklaces, and a picture of her.
