SAT Test for Juniors-should my daughter take the old test in January?

We are new to all of the standardized testing. My daughter is currently in her junior year of high school and she is my oldest.

Because of all of the concerns surrounding the new SAT she decided to take the old one in the fall. I advised her to take it in either November or December to give herself a chance to retake it in January if she was not happy with her scores.

So her results just arrived today. She got an 800 on reading, a 750 on Math and a 730 on writing. I think that these are terrific scores given that she hardly studied; she just took a few old tests in a prep book. She is very upset with her score, especially in writing.

Given that she would like to attend a highly competitive school would you advise her to retake the test in January or just stick with these scores?

Thanks for your help!

These are beautiful scores. No one could fault her if she wanted to call it a day. But since she feels she can do better on writing and she wouldn’t have to study much, there really isn’t a down side to taking one more shot before walking away.

I would take a few practice tests (even just doing the writing sections) from the Blue Book. And both of my kids found Erica Meltzer’s writing book to be helpful and a quick read.

These are pretty impressive scores but it’s up to her if she wants to retake it. Any advice from her on acing the critical reading section? I also took the December SAT but got a pretty low score for both reading and writing.
