SAT Testing Schedule

I am a junior and I plan to finish all of my SAT testing before the end of this school year so that I can focus on essays and applications senior year. I know that I will be taking the SAT test in March and most likely retesting in June. This leaves January and then may to take and retake my subject tests. I am looking to get into a top level business or computer science program and I want to select SAT subject tests that will improve my chances if I perform well. However, I do not know which tests are the best to take or how many I should attempt. I am thinking math 2, physics, and literature because physics is my best science and literature will show that I have a diverse education. Does this sound like a good idea? Or should I just take math 2 along with only one of literature/physics and not worry about taking all three. If so, which combination would be the best? I figure that I might as well try three and if a school only requires two I will send my top two scores.

Thanks in advance for your help.

You need only two except for Georgetown, which does not actually require subject tests but “strongly recommends” three (in other words assume they are needed). Also, a small number of colleges, like NYU, allow you to submit three subject tests instead of any SAT or ACT. If you take math 2 and physics and scored high in both you would be fine for applying to any computer science program and you would even meet the subject test requirements of all colleges that actually require subject tests for any major, including engineering and any business major. Thus, if you want to go with only two, those two would assure that you would meet the requirements for subjects anywhere for any major. If you want to apply to Georgetown, which recommends but does not require three or use that alternative at NYU (and a few other colleges like it) then add literature,

I think I will take 3 just to be safe. Anyone else?

In terms of the SAT I, you have three months to prepare and I would highly recommend you to study as hard as you can for it so you don’t have to take it twice. Assuming that you are taking pre calc and physics this year, I would wait until June to take the subject tests so that you will have accumulated as much knowledge as you can in each of the subjects (prep books are key preparation tools for the subject tests too though). As for 2 or three subject tests, studying for each subject test takes a while. If you have the time, go for three, if you don’t, go for the two that best fit your decided major path and if you do poorly on one of the two, you will have time to retake it or take the third one next year. Very very few schools require 3 subject tests.

@Enginscout‌ Actually I am taking a three series calculus course at a local community college this year. On my practice test I struggled with some of the geometry concepts because it has been three years since I have been in that class. Therefore I have no problem with taking the math SAT test soon.

Also, I took biology freshman year, physics sophomore year, and this year I will be taking one quarter of environmental science. Unfortunately, I will not be taking chemistry until senior year.
