SAT US History Vs. AP US History

Hey everyone.
I was wondering how similar the SAT US History test is to the multiple choice section of the APUSH exam. In other words, will preparing for one help me with the other significantly? In other other words, if I take one, should I might as well take the other?

Thanks in advance.

yea… I am considering about taking AP US next year but also want to take sat us at june…

Take both. Studying for AP will definitely help for the SAT exam.

Thanks for the replies.

What I’m worried about is that my school (a boarding school in new england) doesn’t teach us history the way most public schools do (prepare you for the ap). We don’t have much emphasis on individual events and dates and facts, but more of the big picture/themes.

That’s why we have to self-study a lot if we want to take the SAT2/AP. So my next question is: is it hard to self-study for these two tests? I tried out a practice test yesterday and my fears were right; I was able to get barely half the multiple choice after doing 2/3 of the course.

^^ The AP exam IS about the big picture/themes. My APUSH teacher (who is amazing) rarely tests us on exact facts and figures, but rather on thematic ideas and the interconnection of events.

If you know the general theme of the time period (ie. Great Depression during the '30s), certain facts just pop out and usually the most important ones are the ones tested on the test, the ones you absolutely can’t forget (unless you don’t give a crap).

I found the two tests to be relatively similar; I cannot recall any distinctive differences. I took the Subject Test six days before the AP exam.

From taking practice tests of SAT II (I’m taking the SATII USH on May 1st), I can say that APUSH has help significantly.

The questions aren’t that different but there’s no writing part in the SATII.
