I really need to improve my vocab, and I've heard of a few different books:
The Essential 300 Words
Direct Hit Volumes 1 and 2
Barron's SAT Vocabulary Flash Cards

I'm probably taking the SAT in October, and I have time this summer to prepare. So does anyone have any favorites from the list above? Or should I get all of them?

@adttee - Direct Hits is said to be the best, but it demands consistency and daily practice. Similar to what @tipsywee noted, there are apps out there that help you remember words better. One example is SAT Vocab by MindSnacks (found on the Apple App store). It essentially splits up 500 commonly used SAT words into 25 lessons. Through the aid of easy-to-remember pictures and engaging mini-games, it helps you memorize the sets of 20, progressing you until you learn all 500. The app + first lesson is free, with an additional purchase (~$5) necessary to get the other 24 lessons, so you have the ability to try it out before you buy it. This is also a cheaper alternative to some of the aforementioned resources that you wanted to buy.

For some vocab drilling, I would also recommend the Vocab Builder on number2.com.
