SAT vs. ACT Improvement?

Has anyone here taken the SAT with disappointing results and improved greatly after taking the ACT? Basically, I recently took the SAT in March with a 1760. Now, this is a horrible score for me considering I thought I'd get above 2000. I've taken 3 diagnostic test before this and all were the same. I have a Cumalitive 4.45 GPA and I know my curriculum. I just can't seem to beat the tricks the SAT throws out (I've also taken the Princeton Review course with no real results).

However, after finding out about the ACT, I see that I pretty much can easily answer almost 100% of these questions. I even tried the practice Science test online which many people complain about and I got all of them correct in the time limit. (My REAL ACT Practice Book will arrive next week).

How much have you guys improved by taking the ACT over the SAT. Can I expect to get scores in the 34 range? I'm aiming for anything pretty much above 33. Right now, I seem confident that I will do well based on the practice questions online, but I still don't see why this is so easy compared to my 1760 on the SATs?

Thanks for the feedback.

I was pretty confidant about the SAT when I took it (my precalc and english classes tried to integret some test prep in the curriculum/homework), and honestly thought I would get over 2200, with 1 skipped question in math. I got a 1950, so it all depends.

On the ACT, I took it completely blind and got a 32, if that helps.

Assuming I do well on the ACT, would my SAT score hurt me if has already been reported to colleges?

and um..y did u report it to colleges when u didnt apply yet?

never b overconfident about anything.

I was in the same boat as you, in fact so similar that we have the same SAT score. So here is what happened: I had taken a couple practice tests and totally expected to get 2000 and up. However, I got a 1760. I was pretty ticked since this is a horrible score for me too, I have a 4.0uw and pretty challenging coarse load. So I switched to the ACT and recently got a 31 from the April 14th. So it's no 33, but it definately beats a 1760.

Thanks for the response tennisgal. Sure makes me more confident =)

And to LuckMC, I didn't know you can report to colleges after you've taken the test? I thought you can only do that when you pick the 4 before the test? I guess I was wrong lol.

I've already payed the $40 for the SAT I for May (I payed last month). Now that I'm much more confident about the ACTs, I'm feeling that I shouldn't take the SATs again. I have 3 AP tests in May, and IB test for Economics, the SAT II Math II in June, as well as the ACTs. So studying for the SATs again may hurt me everywhere else. Do you suggest I still re-take it or is it not worth my time since the ACTs are a better choice for me?

Take the ACT, and do not take the SAT because there is not point in doing so for you. All colleges accept both, so you should concentrate on the one that you are more confident about.

By the way, my SAT score was a 2000, and I knew I should have taken the ACT, but I tried the SAT anyway. And I have a huge test load coming up as well.

AP Chem-May
AP US-May
AP Eng Lang Comp-May
AP Psych-May
SAT II Chem-May
SAT II Bio-June
SAT II Math 2/C-June
ACT-June

if i got a 2120 on the SAT, and 31 ACT composite, should i submit my ACT scores to colleges (since i was told i dont have to) or will it hurt me? im not familiar with the ACT so i dont know what colleges are looking for.
i'm looking at schools like possibly upenn, cornell, u virginia, u mich....schools like that

it would seem fine either or both^^^, although i think 2120 might be slightly better (im not looking at any chart though)
