<p>I just recently took the SAT and got a 2000. (The writing section KILLED me.) I just took it this past January as a junior, and was for sure planning on taking at again at the beginning of my senior year.</p>
<p>I was just wondering if it would be worth it to take the April ACT?
I'm aim for Rice University and plan on taking 2 Subject Tests as well.</p>

<p>I recommend most students take both tests. Some do better in one or the other.</p>
<p>I think it would be a great idea to take the ACT in April. That way, you can see which test you do better on, and take that exam again in June. MOST students perform the best in June after school is over, so I HIGHLY suggest this.</p>

<p>I recommend taking the ACT, but would lean away from the April test. If you’re a Junior, why not wait until the June test and use the time to study/prepare?</p>
<p>My son is a Junior and he prefers the ACT over the SAT. There are no “games” with the ACT. The SAT penalizes you for wrong answers, so you have to determine if you can rule out two answers before you dare guess. The ACT doesn’t do that.</p>
<p>Also, the ACT measures how much you have absorbed in school up the the 11th grade. The SAT only tests up the the 9th grade curriculum (depends on subject tests for the rest) and focuses more on reading comprehension of what you just read. From what I understand, it will give you a relatively easy math problem to solve for X, then ask for one less then X, trying to screw you up. </p>

<p>He took his first practice ACT (timed) over the Winter break and got a 27 on it. He purchased two ACT prep guides (physical books) and two on-line guides that offered (I think) 3 or 4 on-line tests each. He read all the prep material and is halfway through all the tests we bought. He seems to be crushing the test. He is taking a timed test every weekend now. His last two grades (on-line timed) were 34 on President’s weekend and 33 this past weekend. </p>
<p>He is scheduled for the April test, but I wish he would have waited until June. IMHO, he is too eager. The questions he misses are often stuff he hasn’t learned yet (since the ACT tests up the to Junior year curriculum). He would have learned it all by June.</p>
<p>I don’t understand the rush with him… or you. 
The earliest you need to provide these grades to a school is October for early decision. Am I missing something?</p>
