SAT vs ACT

Any thoughts on what colleges like/value more?

One thing I notice in a lot of threads is people take the SAT, don't do well, and then take the ACT. Also, though I haven't taken it, people say the ACT is significantly easier with less tricks than the SAT.

Is it therefore more impressive to just take the SAT and do well on it?

Both are considered equal

Hogwash. I don’t know where you heard this tripe. All schools accept each test. The only stated preference was a CA school for the ACT. Some schools get more students applying with the SAT because that is a local preference. ACT has traditionally been the mid-west test of preference, but two years ago it surpassed the SAT in test takers.
