Hi, so im based in Hong Kong and i was looking at some universities to study bachelor of science, i havent chose my major yet but im planning to take SAT this june and i wanted to ask which subjects should i take for that programme, i looked into some of the universities but it mentioned that you should take atleast 1 science subject and take have a score of 600 and above in all 3 sat subject tests. im taking maths 2 ofcourse and either bio or chem, not both because i dont want to have so much stress but what should the test subject i should take in order to get 600 score and the subject that will not affect my results or university application. thank you
Take the subject in which you think you’ll do best! Unless the schools you’re looking at specify.
If you’re studying for bachelor in science, take the subject you are better at. In my experience, I took both biology and chemistry, and biology was easier to study for.
The colleges that require or recommend subject tests require or recommend two except Georgetown, which recommends but does not require three. In several cases, certain majors require certain tests, e.g., engineering and sometimes science often need a math and science. Some like economics or business sometimes require or recommend a math and then any of your choice. If you are good at math and science then an ideal combination would be math 2 and physics or chemistry because that combination will meet any requirements for subject tests anywhere for any majors. Biology could be the science choice for almost everywhere but one university, Carnegie Mellon, requires a math and chemistry or physics for engineering majors and thus biology does not meet that requirement.
It doesn’t matter which, biology or chemistry, they are both sciences.
I took practice exams in both subjects to figure out which one to take, and I personally thought that the Chemistry test was much easier.
