SAT with or without essay

I am planning to retake the SAT in October in order to increase my chances, but II got the highest score in the essay section for my last SAT so I was considering not taking it with the essay portion. However, one of the colleges I’m applying to requires it and I was wondering if they could count my previous SAT for the essay score and my next SAT for the CRW and Math sections,

Most schools do NOT take different portions of different tests to have a better collective score. Schools will only take the best cumulative score of all the times you took the SAT. If that school that requires the writing portion is a school you are very interested in or you are seriously considering on attending there, I would strongly recommend that you take the test again with the writing section. It really depends on how much you desire to attend that school. Good luck!

@kidfood actually some schools DO do this. OP should contact the school of interest and get clarification on that question. The essay isn’t given the degree of importance accorded to the other subsections. Also, while schools do not typically superscore the ACT, they often will superscore the SAT as long as both are the same version (i.e. both are retired or both are revised). Then the question about the essay is moot.

Thank you both for your help!
