SAT Writing QOTD

The moose and the wapiti are the largest members of the deer [family, each of them are] found in North America, Europe, and Asia.

A. family, each of them are
B. family, both are
C. family, which are
D. family and are both
E. family and each are

I know that each is singular so it is not (A) or (E). I am stuck there though... help!

D
… I think

B is a comma splice, so it doesn’t work. C has a misplaced modifier(are does not agree with family). Thus, the correct answer is D.

What exactly is the issue with the “each”? What is the difference between the each and the both? I got it limited to D and E, then I got stuck.
